Vivian Mitchell, 84, Was Active in Church Work

Vivian Elizabeth Mitchell of Harding Township, N.J., died on Jan. 12, quietly in her home. She was 84. Mrs. Mitchell was born in Newark, N.J., on June 9, 1919 to the late Horace Scotland and Jennie (Smalley) Scotland. She was the widow of Richard Mitchell.

Mrs. Mitchell worked as an executive secretary at the Internal Revenue Service in Newark. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Newark, where she had been a member of the vestry. She was also a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Oak Bluffs and was currently a member of the vestry. When in Morristown, Mrs. Mitchell attended St. Peter's Episcopal Church. She was a member of the Northeasterners Inc., the Women's Club of Morristown and a volunteer at Morristown Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her son, Roger D. Mitchell; daughter, Claire E. Walker, and husband, Raymond Walker, all of Morristown; and three grandchildren, Kendall M. and Christopher Walker and Toby D. Mitchell. She is also survived by her sister, Doris E. Moore, of Metuchen, N.J.; brothers, Minor J. and wife, Mickey E. Scotland, of Edison, N.J., and Joseph W. and wife, Arlene Scotland, of Oak Bluffs, and her sisters in law, Gladys Scotland of Linden, N.J., and Audrey Scotland of E. Orange, N.J.

A funeral service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 950 Broad street in Newark, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery in Orange. Visitation will be on Jan. 16 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Rowe-Lanterman Home for Funerals, 71 Washington street in Morristown, N.J.
