Daniel Botelho Jr. Was New Bedford Fisherman

Daniel (Capt. Dan) Botelho Jr. died Monday, August 25, at Hathaway Manor. He was 86.

He was born in New Bedford and was a lifelong resident. He was married to the late Gloria (Andrews) Botelho.

He was a commercial fisherman and owner of the Gloria B. and the Ruth and Nancy until he retired at age 65. He still enjoyed going to the docks and sitting and talking with the other fishermen.

He is survived by his two daughters, Ruth Avila and her husband, James of Florida, Rose Medeiros and her husband, Butch of Martha's Vineyard; his brother, Frank Botelho of New Bedford; his three sisters, Hilda Candido, Anna Saulnier and Helen Mello, all of South Dartmouth; nine grandchildren, Jenny Lawrence, Michael Avila, Susan Pimental, Doreen Cruz, Jeannine Rocha, Michelle Feltault, Renee Gregoire, April Henderson and Albert Gregoire Jr.; 13 great-grandchildren, Daniel Avila, Andrew Pimental, Matthew Pimental, Ashley Ambrose, Kelsey Avila, Nicholas Lawrence, Ivy Henderson, Zachery Avila, Alex Lawrence, Max Cruz, Sydney Henderson, Sabrina Henderson and Brendan DaSilva and Baby Gregoire on the way.

He was predeceased by his brother, Manuel Botelho and a great-grandson, Eric Brightman.

His memorial service will be held in the Seamen's Bethel, Johnny Cake Hill, at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 30. Donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House or to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
