Douglas Campbell Was Former Island Resident

Douglas Melrose Campbell, 55, died after a long illness on Saturday, May 3.

He was born on Feb. 23, 1948 and was raised in the Hudson River Valley in New York. He served in the U.S. Army in 1967.

He was a man who loved to work with his hands as a logger, contractor, salvage diver and a fine designer. He was a craftsman in stone, wood and steel, and he had a special love for the outdoors.

In the early 1970s, Mr. Campbell lived in Stanley, Ida., and on Martha's Vineyard. In 1990, he made Sandpoint, Ida., his home with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Campbell of Sandpoint; two daughters, Mariah and Jessica Campbell of Sandpoint; his mother, Sylvia M. Campbell of Chilmark, and a sister, Laura Campbell Douglas of West Tisbury. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amanda Melrose Campbell, and his father, Craig Robertson Campbell.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, at the Campbell home, located at 5564 Colburn Culver Road in Sandpoint, Idaho. In his memory, donations may be made to the Northside School, 9300 Colburn Culver Road, Sandpoint, ID 83864.
