Lena W. Sears, 81, Was Native of West Tisbury

Lena W. Cleveland Sears, 81, of Bridgewater died Wednesday, April 16, after a lengthy period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Earle H. Sears Jr.

Born in West Tisbury and brought up in Vineyard Haven, she was the daughter of the late Lydia and Llewellyn Cleveland. She was graduated in 1939 from Tisbury High School.

Mrs. Sears was a resident of Brockton for 35 years and had made her home in Bridgewater for the past 11 years.

She was a member of the Olivet Memorial Church in Brockton, where she taught children's religious classes. She was also a member of the 4-H club and taught a class in wildflowers. She enjoyed bird watching and arranging flowers.

She is survived by her son, Ken Sears of Florida; two daughters, Debby MacLeod of Bridgewater and Doreen Sears of New Hampshire; two sisters, Marge Taylor of Martha's Vineyard and Rita Cleveland of Belmont; two brothers, Mel Cleveland of Framingham and Harold Cleveland of New Hampshire; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, at Coweeset Cemetery in Brockton. Arrangements were by the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 647 Main street, Brockton.
