Rev. Chris Steward, 73, Was Evangelical Minister

The Rev. Chris Steward, 73, of Vineyard Haven died on Sept. 25 at his home, surrounded by the love of family. He was the husband of Joyce L. Jackson Steward, to whom he was married on Feb. 5, 1988 in New York city.

Born in Baltimore, Md., on July 17, 1929, he was a son of Richard and Priscilla Steward. He grew up in Washington, D.C., and was a graduate of Howard University. He resided on the Vineyard for the past three years, having moved here from New York city.

The Rev. Mr. Steward was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the United States Marine Corps. He was a professional dancer years ago, and later became an ordained evangelical minister.

In addition to his wife of 14 years, he leaves a stepson, Paul Norwood of Brooklyn, N.Y.

The family gratefully acknowledges the care and services provided by the staff of the Martha's Vineyard Hospital dialysis unit and the Vineyard Nursing Association.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Martha's Vineyard Hospital dialysis unit or to the Vineyard Nursing Association.

Arrangements are by the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home in North Attleboro.
