Did any Islanders run in the Boston Marathon? The winners were Helen Obiri of Kenya and Sisay Lemma of Ethiopia. The statue of Spencer, our loyal marathon mascot, was in place where he stood greeting runners for many years. Congratulations to all who participated.

This was our school break week. I missed the morning buses.

On Friday, April 19, Edgartown Seafood will reopen. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays, closed on Mondays.

Barney Zeitz had a wonderful trip to Germany to see the reinstallation of some of his stained glass windows that had been broken. He was in Flieden. Pastor Holger Biehn gave a most welcoming sermon. Barney met with mayor Christian Henkel after the sermon.

John Sundman has caught me up on his wife Betty Burton. She was airlifted to Salem hospital with a very bad case of pneumonia. John drove there on Patriot’s day, avoiding marathon traffic as he went. Betty is doing better but not really using her phone . Cards are always welcome at P.O. Box 2641Vineyard Haven 02568. John will bring them to her on his next visit this weekend.

Sadly, Priscilla Thifault has passed away. Priscilla was beautiful, talented, a great mother, friend, and accomplished artist. She was our secretary for years in the Legion Auxiliary. Rest in peace.

On Monday Carole Vandal took the cake. Many happy returns.
