The inaugural Waylon Madison Sauer Memorial Basketball Tournament takes place Sunday, April 7.

The event will be held in memory of Waylon Sauer, who died in an automobile accident this fall. Waylon was a high school junior and member of the regional high school basketball team.

The event pits teams of teens and adults in a 3 v 3 basketball tournament with games beginning at 10 a.m. It is organized by friends and classmates Tayna Silva and Volkert Kleeman.

“This event not only celebrates Waylon’s legacy but brings our community together for a day of fun and camaraderie,” Ms. Silva, the junior class president, wrote in a press release.

The top four teams will advance to semi-final games held at approximately 11:30 a.m., with the championship game slated for 12:15 p.m.

In addition to basketball, there will be a celebration of sponsors, supporters and teams. The tournament concludes with a celebration and closing remarks at 12:30 p.m.
