Editors, Vineyard Gazette;

My family has always loved the Vineyard, and we have spent chunks of time here since 1981. Since 1985 we have owned a summer cottage in Ocean Heights. We particularly enjoy swimming and kayaking at Sengekontacket Pond and biking all over the island. At times members of the family work online from here.

A few observations to offer this summer.

For the first time in memory, jet skis have invaded the Pond. Sengie is already under threat from development and seepage from septics. The last thing it needs is an infusion of speeding boats. Jet skiers need to slow down in the pond and perform their tricks on the Sound far from shore.

Electric bikes have proliferated in recent years, and they help ease traffic. When cyclists of any sort travel over 15 miles an hour, however, they belong on the roads. Pedestrians and cyclists share the dedicated bike lanes, and it just isn’t safe for anyone to speed on them.

When will a solution be found for the bottleneck at the Triangle? I’ve seen lines of inbound traffic on Vineyard Haven Road stretching beyond Price’s Way and over the hill. Ditto for lines stretching from the Triangle back to Bend in the Road Beach. Yet when traffic passes the Stop & Shop, it evaporates. Go figure.
