A metal guard rail on Lambert’s Cove Road near the West Tisbury town beach will have to be replaced after being damaged in a recent hit and run crash.

“Everything was wiped out on one side,” town highway superintendent Richard Olsen said at Wednesday’s select board meeting. The person who caused the damage has not yet been identified.

With permission from the board, Mr. Olsen will proceed with replacing the railing on one side, employing the services of contracting company Lawrence Lynch. He has yet to receive a cost estimate for the project, which will entail fabricating a new railing.

Mr. Olsen is also working on plans to secure the railing on the other side of the road, which was loosened during the incident.
