Martha’s Vineyard magazine will see a change in editorial leadership this month, as editor Paul Schneider steps back, to be succeeded in the top spot by the magazine’s senior editor Vanessa Czarnecki.

Mr. Schneider, who has brought depth and wit to the magazine in his nearly nine years as editor, will remain as a contributing editor.

The magazine is part of the Vineyard Gazette Media Group.

The change will be formally announced next Wednesday evening at the Best of the Vineyard celebration at Farm Neck. Mr. Schneider will serve as master of ceremonies for the magazine’s annual award presentation before turning the reins over to the new editor.

Ms. Czarnecki joined the Gazette media group in 2011 as news editor and director of digital content for the Vineyard Gazette, where she helped oversee the creation of the Gazette’s new website, which included transforming the paper into a daily online presence. In 2013, she was named senior editor of Martha’s Vineyard magazine and took on the additional role of editor of Martha’s Vineyard Island Weddings magazine in 2015.

A graduate of Boston University, she was previously the managing editor of The Boston Phoenix, a now-shuttered news magazine with a weekly circulation of more than 100,000. Her writing and contributions to publications have been recognized multiple times by the New England Newspaper & Press Association.

She lives in West Tisbury with her husband, Matthew Sharkovitz.

Also a resident of West Tisbury, Mr. Schneider joined the magazine in 2013 after a distinguished career as a writer. He is the author of five nonfiction books, including Old Man River: The Mississippi River in North American History (2013) and The Enduring Shore: A History of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket (2000). His shorter works of journalism have appeared in The New York Times, Audubon, Esquire, The New Yorker, Vineyard Gazette and elsewhere. He is changing his role at Martha’s Vineyard magazine to pursue his other writing.

“Under Paul’s leadership, the magazine transformed into the smart, must-read publication it is today. His longtime colleague Vanessa — with her talent and deep experience — is the ideal person to build on that success,” said Jane Seagrave, publisher of the media group.

Associate editor Nicole Fullin has been promoted to managing editor of the magazine and will also succeed Ms. Czarnecki as editor of Island Weddings magazine. She joined the Vineyard Gazette Media Group in 2014 and has held various positions including calendar editor and editor of the Real Estate Yearbook. She lives in Edgartown with her new husband, Lance Fullin.

Alley Moore is the magazine’s art director. Brooke Kushwaha and Charlene Pinckney are assistant editors.
