Crescent Moon and Gemini

Tonight a thin crescent moon appears fairly high in the southwestern sky after sunset. The moon is in the zodiacal constellation Gemini and is in close proximity to Pollux its brightest star.
Pollux is one of the closest giant stars to our sun. The star is only 34 light years away. The star is distinctly orange compared to Castor, the near by star with a blueish color. Castor is 50 light years away.

The two stars are the brightest in the constellation. Gemini is a constellation depicting twins, with Castor and Pollux positioned as the head of the two.
Lunar Eclipse

Be ready for a spectacular total lunar eclipse beginning late night on Sunday, May 15. The show begins well before midnight and is the first lunar eclipse we have had in a while.
