Everyone will be trudging through slush today. But the snowfall did look beautiful last night. Perilous for a person walking on a new hip, though. I won’t be going out shopping today.

Looks like there are big plans for our Beach Road waterfront renovation. My hope is that the area will be more beautiful and safer for cyclists and pedestrians. I am also hoping it will be done quickly. Am I asking too much?

Now here is a project all our Island kids from kindergarten through sixth grade can enter. The Island Book, our annual publication from the Chamber of Commerce, has opened its cover art entries to all students in that age group. The deadline is coming up, so check with the Chamber and your school on how and when to submit an entry. Best of luck.

So what do you do when one of your best friends has gone missing and is not returning calls or texts? I called her best friend in Brazil. Within twenty minutes I had a text from Brazil. Gisele had tracked Leide down for me on Island. Leide called within 30 minutes. Here we have it, the global village!

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Dennis Redican, who passed this week. There is such an outpouring of love for him. We shall treasure his memory.

The birthday bandwagon remembers some dear ladies who have passed but would have celebrated this week. Shirley McCarthy and Teri Praskach both had birthdays on Jan. 26. And my dear friend, Katie Nevin, was always feted on her Jan. 30 birthday. More great memories to treasure.

I wish you all a great new month as we welcome February. Stay well.
