Chris Roberts has been named interim executive director at the Martha’s Vineyard Boys and Girls Club, the club board announced Friday.

The appointment follows the announcement two weeks ago that club executive director Jessie Damroth will step down.

Mr. Roberts has been working as program director at the club since 2018.

“Based on his excellent record of service to the club, we are confident that Chris will successfully manage programs and operations of the club during this transition,” club president Jeffrey Madison said in the announcement.

Before joining the club as program director in May 2018, Mr. Roberts had volunteered for a number of years as a basketball coach, according to a bio on the club website.

He graduated from Hayfield High School in Alexandria, Va., earned a BFA in theatre from Southern Methodist University and an MFA from Columbia University. He played basketball and football in high school. He has been active in youth baseball, basketball, and soccer on the Island. He and his wife Elle Lash live in West Tisbury with their two children.
