A Vineyard Haven woman is facing drunk driving charges following a one-car crash in Oak Bluffs early Thursday morning.

Oak Bluffs police said they responded to the scene near the roundabout on the Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road at 12:33 a.m. Thursday, where they found a Toyota pickup truck in the woods off Barnes Road.,

The woman later identified as Francielle Prado DeOliveira, 31, of Vineyard Haven, approached the officer. At first she denied being the operator but later admitted she was the driver and said she had been at a party with friends, a police report said.

Ms. DeOliveira was transported to the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and was issued a summons to appear in court on charges of drunken driving, marked lanes violation, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding.

In a post on their Facebook page, Oak Bluffs police underscored the importance following social distancing rules during the pandemic, and the dangers of driving while drunk.

“We’d like to remind everyone that during the current pandemic social distancing should be taken seriously, and you should never drink and drive,” the post said.
