Halloween is Thursday, Oct. 31 but that doesn’t mean you need to wait until then to get your fright night groove going. This weekend all manner of costumed fun can be found around the Island.

On Saturday, Oak Bluffs leads the way with businesses along Circuit avenue opening their doors to trick-or-treaters from noon to 4 p.m. For the sporty there is a Happy Bubbleween Party at the Vineyard Family Tennis center, complete with tennis games and a dance party with DJ Spooky D from 6 to 8 p.m.

Those in search of more rustic Halloween adventures can head to the Farm Institute on Saturday for a Barnyard Boo party with hayrides, s’mores and much more from 4 to 6 p.m. Or go further afield for Bat Night at Long Point Wildlife Refuge from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Bring some garlic and holy water as a Dracula metamorphosis may await out there in the dark woods.

For adults, there are two Halloween parties on Saturday night, one at The Loft in Oak Bluffs, the other at the Atlantic in Edgartown.

On Sunday, Edgartown picks up where the candy trail left off with businesses in town getting into the trick-or-treating vibe from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Of course the main event is Thursday, when all manner of young ghouls, goblins, ghosts, fierce animals and pop culture nightmares take to the streets. William street in Vineyard Haven is always a mosh pit of activity. Roads will be closed in the surrounding area from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be a children’s puppet parade on Main street beginning at 4 p.m.

Up-Island, the Chilmark volunteer firefighters hosts a Halloween party at the Chilmark Community Center, beginning at 5:30 p.m., and the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury comes complete with spooky hayrides through the nearby graveyard, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Join them if you dare.
