On Wednesday, August 21, the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival continues its summer series with a new documentary by director Ric Burns entitled Driving While Black.

Mr. Burns will attend the screening, along with film editor Emir Lewis and film subject Dr. Craig Wilder, to discuss the film and the journey of making the film.

Driving While Black is based on more than a decade of research into material like the Green Book, recently made famous by this year’s Oscar winning film of the same name. The Green Book was an important booklet for African Americans looking for safe places to stop when traveling by automobile during the Jim Crow era and beyond.

The film begins at 8 p.m. at the Chilmark Community Center. Cinema Circus begins at 5 p.m., and dinner and live music begin at 6:30 p.m. Visit tmvff.org.
