Thank you to everyone who braved the heat and humidity to march with us for a fun Fourth of July parade.

This week’s adoption news features happy stories: female tabby Spenser has been reunited with her brother and sister, and eight-week-old tabby kitten Stu has found his forever home, joining big brother Steve.

Small dog lovers, we have a really nice five-year-old male Lhasa Apso. Frankie is white with tan markings. He’s housebroken and just wants to be with his people. This is a super pup.

Who needs a snuggle bunny? We have three Dutch dwarf bunnies, a mother and her two juvenile daughters. Mom and one of the girls are tan with a little black, and the other is black with white accents. These bunnies love being picked up and snuggled.

Tabby cat lovers, we currently have a male and two females available for adoption. The male is Mr. Softee, a young stray found at the Lambert’s Cove Inn. He’s very friendly, purrs like crazy and is double pawed. Tootsie is a friendly, six-year-old, indoor cat with white paws and pretty green eyes. Our last tabby is six-year old Holly, who’s been here well over a year and really needs to find her permanent home.

If tabby’s not your thing, we have a wonderful orange male. He’s a smaller boy with that awesome orange male personality. He’s been declawed, so he must be an indoor cat.

We still have our special needs cat, The Earl of Cecil, looking for someone to love. He is only six, solid black with luminous green eyes and the sweetest disposition. We believe he suffered a stroke or a seizure and now has very limited vision, but he has no trouble getting around.

Who wants a Guinea pig(s)? We currently have three youngsters in need of homes. All three were hand raised and enjoy being held and played with. The girl is gray and white with a rosette. The boys are both black and white (one resembles a skunk) with rosettes.

Coming up, Beach Road Weekend, August 9 to 11, has announced a partnership with the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard. The Shelter will have a presence at the concert on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Flea and tick season is here so please make sure to keep up with protection for your pets and yourself. Also keep in mind how quickly car temperature can soar on a hot day, so it may not be wise to take your best friend along. And be aware of the pavement temperature if you plan on taking your dog for a walk. Hot pavement can burn delicate pads.

If anyone is in need of dog food or pet crates, please stop by. We have plenty and are happy to share.

We are always taking jewelry donations for next year’s Garden Party.

We still need adult volunteers to answer the phone and meet and greet people on Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons. If you can help, give us a call or stop by for more information.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662. Contributions are always gratefully accepted; the shelter is funded solely by donations. Please make checks out to Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown, MA 02539 or visit animalshelterofmv.org.
