Numerous Island organizations will honor of Martin Luther King Jr. this weekend.

The Martha’s Vineyard NAACP holds its annual luncheon on Monday, Jan. 21 beginning at noon at Portuguese American Club in Oak Bluffs.

The program includes a musical tribute featuring Molly Conole, David Behnke,Sabrina Leung, Erik Leung, Kate Taylor, Piper Blau, Isabella Blake, Peter Boak, George Davis and Allison Frazier-Hayden.

The Federated Church hosts a special church service on Sunday, Jan. 20, honoring MLK’s work as a minister. The program begins at 10:30 a.m. and will include selections from some of his sermons, read by members of the congregation, as well as appropriate Bible passages and music.

The Hebrew Center is honoring the friendship and work of MLK and Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel at its Shabbat service on Friday, Jan. 18. The service begins at 5:30 p.m. and features guest speaker Rev. Mariama White-Hammond of the Boston Bethel AME Church.

The First Baptist Church at 43 Spring street, Vineyard Haven hosts a concert on Friday, Jan. 18 with pianist Dr. Geoffrey Hicks. The concert is from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
