Tomorrow night, at 9:54 p.m. autumn arrives without much fanfare. For many of us, the arrival of the Harvest Moon, the first full moon of autumn says it plenty on Tuesday night.
When that full moon rises over Chappaquiddick in the east, the message is clear enough that we are in for a seasonal change.
There is plenty of evidence of cooler weather ahead, though the temperatures in the past few weeks has also felt like shirtsleeve summer. At night, even with clear starry skies the dew settles across the landscape.
The Harvest Moon rises at about sunset and it is in the zodiacal constellation Pisces. The Harvest Moon always resides in Pisces, just as the sun is always in the zodiacal constellation Virgo on the first day of fall.
Also note that the length of these September nights has increased. Night and day are about equal in length.
