Calling all Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs, awards show devotees and movie buffs. The Martha’s Vineyard Film Center is hosting a weekend of movie magic.

The fun begins Friday afternoon with a cinematic trip to the wizarding world of Harry Potter, sponsored by the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society and the West Tisbury library. An interactive screening of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone begins at 1 p.m.; doors open at 12:30 p.m. Goodie bags will be provided, costumes are welcome, and the Sorting Hat will be on hand to sort young witches and wizards into their proper Hogwarts houses. Tickets for the free event can be reserved at the film center or online at mvfilmsociety.com.

Trade wizarding robes for gowns and gold statutes Sunday as the film society rolls out the red carpet for the 90th annual Academy Awards. The annual Oscar party includes light appetizers, desserts, beverages, prizes, and a chance to pose on the red carpet with a real Oscar. The awards ceremony will be broadcast live on the film center screen, with a special prize for the person who correctly guesses the most Oscar winners.

Festivities begin at 7 p.m. and the big show starts at 8:30 p.m. Advance tickets are $35, $25 for film society members, at mvfilmsociety.com; tickets are $40 at the door. Proceeds benefit the film society and the annual international film festival.

And there’s still time to catch up on the best picture nominees, with several contenders screening this weekend at Island theatres.
