An Edgartown man was sentenced to probation last week after pleading guilty to assault and battery charges in Dukes County superior court.

A jury trial had been scheduled this week for Michael L. Jackson, 48, who was indicted in 2016 on two counts of rape dating to June 2015.

Last Friday Mr. Jackson pleaded guilty to two reduced charges of assault and battery. The Hon. Cornelius J. Moriarty sentenced Mr. Jackson to a one-year suspended sentence in a house of correction on one of the counts. He was placed on probation for three years and ordered to remain alcohol and drug free, subject to random testing, ordered to submit a DNA sample, and ordered to pay monthly probation fees and a $50 victim/witness assessment fee.
