Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod is planning to conduct an extensive mishap response drill Wednesday south of Martha’s Vineyard.

According to a press release from the Coast Guard, the closed training will have fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters working in conjunction with Sector Southeastern New England and the first district command center to simulate a search for a downed aircraft.

The training exercise will allow Coast Guard personnel to implement the mishap response plan, which is reserved for emergencies, in a controlled environment. The participants will have a debriefing after the drill.

The exercise is subject to cancellation because of weather or aircraft maintenance, the Coast Guard said.

Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, located at Joint Base Cape Cod in Bourne, is home to four MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and three HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft. It is the only Coast Guard aviation facility in the northeast.
