Garrett Hagen and Gabe Nascimento scored the first two goals for the Martha’s Vineyard United Soccer U18 travel team in their season opener last Saturday, March 26. The Vineyard beat Fall River 2-0 for a winning start to the season.

Goalie Julian Carter had seven saves in the game.

Hagen and Nascimento are both former charter school students who now attend Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School. Hagen will be a senior next fall while Nascimento is heading into his junior year.

“Evidently their time playing together on the charter school soccer field during recess was well spent,” Hagen’s father, John Hagen, said in an email to the Gazette.

The U11 boys team started their season with 2-2 draw against Dartmouth. Ryan Koster scored the first goal of the season with an assist from Darien Kral, who scored the Vineyard’s second goal. Liam Marek played a solid game as keeper, preserving the team’s lead going into halftime.
