Some new relationships developed at the shelter in the past week. Bubbles the English bulldog has been adopted and he is as in love with his new family as they are with him. And Rebecca Gilbert of Native Earth Teaching Farm has adopted Angora rabbits Ricky and Elsa. She plans to use their soft, beautiful fur to spin into yarn. Congratulations to all.

Is anyone in the vicinity of Franklin street in Vineyard Haven missing an approximately nine-month-old black kitten with a few white hairs on her chest? A family took her in for a few weeks before realizing that they could not have pets, and have surrendered her to the shelter. Please contact us if you think she may be your pet. We are calling her

Eloise and she is scheduled to be spayed next week. She will then be ready for adoption and is a furball of fun.

A new dog has just arrived. Max is a 15-month-old Labrador retriever/hound mix. He is well-trained, affectionate and good with other dogs and cats, but is fearful of young children. He is staying with his family until a new home can be found so please contact the shelter if you would like to meet this sweet boy.

Cat room residents awaiting new homes are 12-year-old tuxedo female Maryanne, 11-year-old white and black male Chaps, and our elderly orange gentleman Milo. Adoption fees will be waived for all of these residents. Also still in the cat room is seven-year-old Russian blue Lola, who is a real doll and super affectionate. There must be a Russian blue lover out there somewhere for this lovely little lady. Also available is Lyle, a five-year-old tuxedo who is very friendly, affectionate and quite handsome. He would prefer to be an only cat.

Lastly, Tosh is still spending his time in the lobby with the staff and volunteers. He is a large brown tabby Manx who is 11 years young. He also loves attention and is sweet as can be. Is there a Manx lover out there ready to add him to your life? His adoption fee will be waived as well.

The Animal Rescue League of Boston’s Spay/Neuter Wagon will be at the shelter on Wednesday, March 16. There may be two spots available so please contact your local animal control office if you have an animal that needs to be spayed or neutered, or if you would like to put your name on the list for their next visit.

With spring around the corner and more pets spending time outside, we’d like to remind everyone that their pets need to be vaccinated against rabies. Rabies clinics will be taking place around the Island on April 2. Rabies vaccinations will available at the shelter at 1 Pennywise Path in Edgartown from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and also at the West Tisbury Fire Station at 452 State Road from 10 a.m. until noon.

And last of all we’d like to extend a huge thank you to Tracker Home Décor. Their Lee Loves Local event during the month of February raised $3,822.24 for the shelter.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
