State tournament play begins this week for the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams.

The sixth-seeded girls play at home Wednesday against 11th-seeded Carver. The 12th-seeded boys play away Thursday against fifth-seeded Apponequet. A fan bus will be going to the game; signups begin today at the regional high school.

Seedings for the state tournament were announced Friday by the Massachusetts Interscholsatic Athletic Association. Vineyard teams play in the MIAA division three south section.

Both basketball teams are coming off strong years and have high hopes for post-season play. The girls ended regular season play this month with a 14-6 record, led by junior co-captain Erin Hill. Hill made school record books this year by scoring her thousandth point. Last year the team lost to Abington in the semifinals.

The boys ended regular season play with a 10-10 record, qualifying for the state tournament in their third to last game. Last year the boys lost to Wareham in the quarter finals.
