Fall is here and the shelter is almost empty. Cat brothers Forrest and Bubba were adopted together. We’re sure they’re having lots of fun playing with their new family. Our favorite husky, Storm, has also found a forever home with a lovely family where he’ll have two young ladies to shower him with affection.

The cat room has one lone resident. Miss Kitty is an approximately one-year-old black and grey tabby. She is very affectionate and loves to play. Come by and meet her to find out if she could be your perfect companion.

Our surprise mama cat, Zoomie, and her beautiful kittens, Racer and Speedy, are all doing well. The kittens are healthy and growing rapidly. If you are interested please contact the shelter to have your name added to the kitten list. Once the kittens are weaned Zoomie will be going home to her family.

Orange feline senior citizen Milo is also doing well and hopes that a special angel might find it in his or her heart to adopt him. The adoption fee will be waived for this lovely gentleman.

We would also like to remind everyone to join us for the Walk for the Animals on Saturday, Oct. 17 (rain date Sunday, Oct. 18). The walk begins at the West Tisbury School and goes from 10 a.m. to noon with registration open from 9:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. The suggested donation is $10. You may also pre-register at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard on Friday, Oct. 16 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., or registration forms can be obtained during regular shelter hours or online at animalshelterofmv.org.

Participants will receive a doggy bandana and other goodies. Please remember that dogs must be leashed and up to date on all vaccinations. And a big thank you to the students of the West Tisbury School for the beautiful posters they created for the event.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
