A flurry of youth hockey action took place at the Martha’s Vineyard Arena this weekend, as both the Vineyard Squirt and the Peewee teams hosted their annual winter tournaments. Two Vineyard Squirt teams faced off against the South Shore Conquistadors and the Nantucket Nor’Easters in the Ryan Mone Memorial Tournament, while the Peewees took on the Milton Snipers, the South Shore Seahawks, and the North Shore Icehawks in the Eric MacLean Memorial Tournament.

Though two Vineyard teams—the Squirts Purple team and the Peewees—advanced to the championship game, they ultimately came up short against their opponents. Nantucket skated to a decisive 5-1 win in the final Squirts game Sunday to win the championship title. The Nor’Easters were dominant throughout the tournament, earning an 11-1 win over the Conquistadors on Saturday. The Vineyard White team gave Nantucket its hardest fight during Saturday’s late game, tying the Nor’Easters 1-1.

The White team also earned a 1-0 win over the Conquistadors in the tournament consolation game Sunday.

In the Eric MacLean tournament, the Vineyard fell 5-3 in their first-round match against South Shore, but rallied to win their next two games against Milton and North Shore. The Peewees secured a rematch with South Shore in the championship game, but the Seahawks again proved too much for the team as they shut out the Vineyard hosts 5-0.
