Think your chili is the best in the land? Think again, or better yet, come try everyone else’s and check out the competition at the annual MVY Radio’s Big Chili Contest this Saturday, Jan. 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. under the tent at the Portuguese-American Club in Oak Bluffs.

Some say cinnamon warms it up. Others say a little cocoa puts the mellow to the red hot stuff. Whatever your pleasure, cooks from all around the northeast, including your Island neighbors, come together to win the big contest. Or do they come together to dance to The Mariachi Mexico Lindo Band, Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish, The Baja Brothers and DJ Alvzie? No matter, by the time 4 o’clock rolls around, everybody’s happy and full.

All this heat is for a good cause as proceeds benefit the Red Stocking Fund, an Island organization that provides Christmas gifts for kids in need.

You have to be 21 or older to come to the contest, and the snow date is Jan. 25. There will be free bus service between the SSA and the Portuguese-American Club.

Tickets are $35 and are available online by visiting mvyradio.com. For more information, call 978-210-1828.
