The Vineyard Haven Yacht Club earned a silver medal during competition in the United States Adult Sailing Championship on Sept. 27. The fleet racing competition, better known as the Mallory Cup, featured J22 boats.

In 2010, the yacht club won the Mallory Cup. Paul Wilson, skipper of that team, returned for the 2014 race. Mr. Wilson was joined by Sonya Stevens Watts, Brett Davis of the Holmes Holes Sailing Association and Reilly Scull of the New England Multihull Association. Ms. Watts has previously earned two silver medals for the yacht club while competing in the United States Women’s Sailing Championship.

The team won its first race and by the final race of the day, was just three points out of the lead. Ultimately, two-time Mallory Cup champion Benz Faget of the Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans earned the title once more.

The Mallory Cup is held in a different class of boat each year to improve competition.
