I still have to say I am happy that we got some needed rain. The dry ponds now have some water in them and the ducks seem to be happy. I hope the deer are happy as people have been complaining about them eating all the leaves. I believe they are looking for the moisture because there are no puddles or ponds for them to drink out of. Now we are enjoying the sun, it’s a little breezy but the sun is still warm. The heat only had to be on one day.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Julia Gomes who celebrated her day Oct. 4; Jackson Burgoyne, Oct. 5; Jayden Coyle, Jordan Coyle and Rayssa Moraes, Oct. 6; Taylor Blair, Oct. 7; Olivia Lively, Oct. 8, and to Nazare McIntosh who celebrated her day Oct. 9.

I was giggling to myself the other morning as I made my breakfast of tea and toast, thinking it was too darn early to turn the heat on. But it was a little chilly with the temperature at 44 outside. We all know it is the time of year when it is warmer outside than in the house. So as I was waiting for the toaster to pop, I got the butter from the other counter and when I opened it, it was as hard as it would have been if I had gotten it out of the refrigerator. When I saw that, I decided it would not hurt to put the heat on just to take the chill out of the house. So, there goes my Nov. 1 goal.

Karen Rogers Coyne and her husband Matt were the guests of honor at the home of her dad Dennis Rogers and his girlfriend Pat. Karen and Matt were ready to reveal the sex of the baby Karen is expecting in March. Mom Sandy Alestra and her husband Vinny were there with Sandy taking pictures of all the guests and she made the cupcakes with the color of blue for boy and pink for girl inside the cake. We all waited patiently while we ate the food that the family had made for the party.

Karen was glowing and Matt had that nice smile on his face while we all held our cupcakes and were told to dig in. Then, when we all were given the go-ahead, it was soon that we heard from one guest, “It’s a boy.” I do admit I was hoping for a girl, seeing there are already two grandsons who are their son Mike and his wife Donna’s children, but as long as he is healthy that is all that matters. The new member of the family is due in March and we can’t wait to meet him. Congratulations to you all.

I was coming home from work on Tuesday and there was Sara Piazza walking at a good pace pushing a stroller with two of her grandchildren in it. I saw her a few days before with the stroller across the street from the park. I slowed down and talked to her while she walked and I thought, I have to write something about this. So as I was checking Facebook (I know, again with Facebook), I saw this story she shared of a walk she took and thought I would share it with you:

“Today actually went great. The best part (there were many): There I am pushing the two three year olds and the five year old in my double jogging stroller — I rigged it with a cushion in the middle for the smallest child — with the baby strapped to my chest in the Moby, and the 80 year old at my side. What a sight (and I loved hearing at least one person call out as we walked through town — ‘I was praying for you.’ — gotta love Facebook, right?). Anyway, all went swimmingly down Main street to Thor’s to purchase a bike helmet for the five year old, and along the harbor to check out the fire/police boat, and all the way to the lighthouse. The stroller was a bit unwieldy on turns, but otherwise worked great. The baby mostly slept. The fun began on the walk back when, just outside of the thrift shop while wrestling the overloaded stroller up the curb to the sidewalk, the front wheel — perhaps not locked on as tightly as it could have been, and now overloaded — collapsed and the wheel fell off. Thanks to grandma’s deftness, nobody fell out, but what a sight we were, walking the last three blocks home — the five year old and 80 year old taking up the rear, with the five year old carrying the wheel (the repair required tools that only were to be found at home), and grandma pushing the two three year olds, chariot style, delicately balanced on two wheels, sleeping baby dangling from her chest, up Main street. We laughed all the way home.”

Hope you enjoyed the story as much as I did.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
