The Aquinnah team was well-represented in the Ride to Remember fallen police officers in the 106-mile bicycle ride from Springfield to Boston over the weekend. Those representing Aquinnah included Tom Murphy and his son Tim, their neighbor Rob Schiller, and Jay Theise a Sound View resident.

The Aquinnah Shop will be closing on Sunday for the season, the last outpost for food in Aquinnah this time of year. Gordon and Dona Perry’s Dreamcatcher closed on Labor Day this year, and Faith Vanderhoop’s Sushi and Shellfish Shack never did open. For now, our closest is Chilmark General Store for a few weeks, the Galley until mid October, and then Josh Aronie’s food truck will return for the winter. Of course if you would like to head to 7a, it is on the way.

Condolences to the family and friends of Joseph R. Andrews Jr. who passed away in New Bedford on Sept. 11. He was the husband of Edith (Correia) and the father of Clyde, Naomi, Cheryl, Mark, and their families. He was the father of the late Joseph R. III. We shared many happy memories over the past 20 years, travelling to Washington, D.C., to attend the USET meetings in the winter. Joe would attend our Aquinnah Tribal Elders luncheons, trips, and other activities with Edith.

Condolences to the family and friends of Beatrice (Beach) Phillipps Bennett who passed away this week at her Chilmark home. Beach was the wife of Bill Bennett and the mother of Bella. She was the daughter of Gay (Moore) Nelson and her husband Arthur, as well as the late Peter Phillips. She was the granddaughter of late Maxwell and Alice Moore of Harthaven and New Britain. She will be missed by many whose lives she touched across the Vineyard.

Chantal Booker, daughter of Spencer and Belinda, has headed to her freshman year studies at the University of New Hampshire, along with Samantha Bunker, daughter of Rodney and Pam, and about a dozen other students from the Vineyard. Clara Corjulo, daughter of Katheryn Corjulo, has returned to her studies at Salve Regina College for the year.

Condolences to the family and friends of Timothy Fullin who passed away on Saturday at his home in Edgartown. Tim was the husband of Linda (Pachico) and the father of Timothy and Keith. Tim was a schoolmate at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School in the 1960s. He was also my faithful and dedicated oil man for many years. He will be missed by many across the Vineyard as well.

Condolences to the family and friends of Barbara Ann Lassen, one of our retired regional high school teachers. Miss Lassen spent her 41-year career teaching in Oak Bluffs, first at the Oak Bluffs School and then at MVRHS. She was very professional in her teaching, mixed with a little humor on occasion. She was dedicated to the hundreds of Vineyard students that she taught. For three years she taught me how to type — we had manual typewriters in those days until the IBM Selectrics arrived, how to run a mimeograph machine and other office equipment, as well as many other business skills that I have relied on for the past 53 years. She will be in our thoughts and prayers as we observe our 50th reunion next weekend.

Samuel Vanderhoop Lee was home for a few days this past week with his parents Marshall Lee and Martha Vanderhoop. Sam and Alex Caplow (Magic Man founders) were in Manhattan for the red carpet release of EASports FIFA15 the soccer video game. Magic Man’s song, Tonight, is on the sound track of the video game. Sam and Magic Man will head to the United Kingdom for a few shows in London in early October and then starting on Oct. 19 they will begin their headline cross-country tour. They will be in Boston at the Paradise on Oct. 26.
