Autumn is upon us. The shadows are getting longer each day. Sunsets are simply spectacular. Beach plums are still in abundance. The fish are biting and deer are on the move. The temperatures have dropped significantly, in the 40s on Wednesday morning and in the 60s during the day. The air is fresh and crisp.

Aquinnah Public Library will have tie dye day tomorrow at noon. Please bring in a cotton T-shirt or other cotton item to be dyed, and let the fun begin.

The 69th annual Martha’s Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby is underway. If you reside in Upis Land, please call our local Council on Aging at the Howes House, 508-693-2896, to be placed on the list for fish distribution.

Reminder: Oct. 1 is the date for the ACE-MV Course Sampling Fair held at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School from 5 to 6:30 p.m. It’s a chance to meet teachers, see the courses being offered, register for the classes and enjoy delicious food. Aquinnah health agent, Julie Sierputoski, would like to remind everyone of the upcoming flu clinic at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to noon. The clinic is open to anyone six months of age or older.

Islanders without insurance will be immunized free of charge. Vehicles must register at one of two staging areas – Waban Park in Oak Bluffs or the West Tisbury School on Old County Road prior to going to the MVRHS for the vaccine. Walkers, bicycle riders, and those who use the VTA bus may go directly to the MVRHS cafeteria. Forms are available on the mvboh.org website, from physicians or at the schools. Please have your health insurance card with you if you do have insurance.

Albert O. Fischer, aka Bert, known for his great photography among many other talents, will have portrait sessions tomorrow at Menemsha Beach for the benefit of the Chilmark Preschool. The sessions are from 2 to 6 p.m.

Seamus Ritter Mahoney celebrated his fourth birthday on Saturday with cake and ice cream and lots of gifts and love with family and friends.

Our annual brunch at Farm Neck was enjoyed by Charity Randolph, her sister Arenda (Bunny) Maxwell, Eleanor Hebert, Beverly Wright, Shelley Carter, Sharon Araujo, and yours truly. We updated one and all on tribal concerns, our families, and shared a lot of laughter and joy. Until next September!
