Richard Olsen of North Tisbury earlier this week repositioned his herd of Halfstein cows to take advantage of the August sun. It is time to say goodbye to all the July visitors and wish them a fond farewell. We trust that you have had a good vacation and enjoyed your summer. We hope that you will come back and visit us next year.

My thanks to Kristian Seney of Tisbury Tech for bailing me out of my misery and my lack of complete internet service. I am back online, but will be forever trying to figure out yet a new program.

The cygnets, all five of them, have been bustling around the Mill Pond with their parents.

Jill Carlton and her husband Pete Karman of New Haven, Conn., arrived last Wednesday to spend the remainder of the summer at their State Road home.

Eleanor Neubert reports that this year will be her 30th as manager of the fair, and it will be the 153rd annual fair. Premium books will be available on Monday and workers and volunteers can sign up at the hall between 9 a.m. and noon.

Marco and Holly Bario and their children Peter and Emma from the West Coast are here visiting her parents Joan and Pat Jenkinson. The kids will remain here with their grandparents for the fair.

Diane Smith reports that Jill Burke, an award winning nurse practitioner from Massachusetts General Hospital, and her husband Bill arrived on the Island last Monday. They were accompanied by 15 members of their family. Bill and Jill will return next week for a quiet two-week vacation.

Karen Child reports that her daughter Bess Moran Child is engaged to Pietro Curini of Milbury. They will be married in August of 2015 in Bristol, R.I. Needless to say, they are quite pleased. Also, their son Brandon West Child and his wife Stephanie Oddo Child are the proud parents of their second child, Mason Gene Child, born at Newton Wellesley Hospital on July 12. Mason weighed 8 pounds, 14 ounces and joins his big brother Aiden.

John Hough Jr., who lives in Indian Hill, will be reading from his new book, Little Bighorn, tomorrow from 5 to 6 p.m. over at the library.

Ward Just of Lambert’s Cove will be discussing his latest novel, American Romantic, Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Chilmark Community Center.

Sheila Fane of Old County Road is exhibiting her original prints and handmade paper works at various venues this summer. Ms. Fane creates her artwork locally in her own studio at Seastone Paper Workshop and at the Featherstone print workshop. She is showing several pieces of her work at Old Sculpin Gallery from Memorial Day through Columbus Day with one-person exhibits starting tomorrow. The opening is Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. She is also showing at the new Artspace across from Tea Lane Associates until the end of October. Sheila helps manage and install the children’s art exhibits for the Agricultural Fair.

Lee Revere, chairman of the book sale, reports that the hours for the 57th annual Friends of the West Tisbury Library’s annual book sale will be held a little later this year. The fundraiser will begin on Friday, August 1, and run through Monday, August 4. She would like to thank everyone for their generous donation of books.
