After winning four of their last five games, the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks have moved into second place in the eastern division of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. The team is fourth overall in the league, with a 19-16 record. Two games this week were postponed due to weather.

Catcher Tim Bickford of the University of Bridgeport was named FCBL player of the week after earning league player of the night two games in a row. Bickford’s dominant offensive performances came against the Worcester Bravehearts. During Saturday’s 14-3 romp, he drove in three runs while going three for five; in the following day’s game, he was two for four with three runs batted in and three runs scored.

Outfielder Ryan Kelly of Salve Regina University was named player of the night after the Sharks’ 22-1 win over the Torrington Titans. Kelly was four for five with one home run, one run batted in, and four runs.

The Sharks dropped a close 5-4 game to the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs on Friday, scoring two runs in the eighth to pull within reach of a win, but coming up short against Dirt Dawgs closer Ben White.

The team has two upcoming home contests this week, hosting the Pittsfield Suns on Sunday evening, and taking on the Titans on Tuesday. Game times are at 7 p.m.
