I guess we were lucky we only got rain. The weather is getting warmer and the wind forgot to go with the rest of the storm. I hope it calms down, but I must say the breeze has helped the heat. I guess we could find a happy medium.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Paige Herrick and Zachary Ward who celebrated July 5, Branden Hammond, July 9, and to Adeline Riley and Bryan Sornas who celebrated their day July 10.

Our sympathies go out to Donna Cavallo for the loss of her father Alton Goodale who passed away on July 2.

In all the years I have lived on this road I can only count once that the Fourth of July parade was cancelled. It was before the school was across the road and some of the floats had begun to gather. It was not a storm as this July Fourth was, but it was a hard decision.

Even though it had been cancelled, the parade was nicely attended except for the Colonial Navy, the New Bedford Band, and the Bausman drummers and dancers. The fireworks were beautiful and very well attended. So, even though we had the brim of Arthur, it was a good Fourth, or should I say Fifth?

I always love to report good things about our young adults, so here are a few emails I received this week:

Amy Bates is visiting after completing the Urban Teacher Education Program of the University of Chicago for her master’s degree and hopes to teach in the Chicago schools in the fall.

Melanie Krauss graduated magna cum laude from Bridgewater State University in May with a bachelor’s degree in fine art. Parents, Richard and Cindy Krauss, are quite proud of her accomplishment. Congratulations, Melanie!

Erin Hill recently competed in the Gym Rat Challenge in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., with her AAU team the Cape Cod Bulls, and was named to the U-14 All Gym Rat Challenge Team.

I have to say that I print the activities of the Felix Neck programs, but with my family here this past week for the holiday they are always looking for different things to do. So, with two-year-old Sabrina Noble, they saw a couple of things to do at Felix Neck and attended the underwater life program. They had a great time and Sabrina enjoyed all the little creatures she found, and, of course, all the other children that were there.

So, that being said, When Lightening Roars, Go Indoors is the program on Monday, July 21, from 5 to 6 p.m. It’s free to the public at Felix Neck and explores the questions: Does lightning strike twice in the same place? Where is the best place to find shelter during a storm? Our own weather man, John Pearson, will look for answers, and you can experience electrostatic energy with a Van de Graft generator.

Have a great week, and keep the home candles burning.
