Rev. Suzan Johnson Cook from New York city will be leading the Union Chapel in worship on Sunday, July 13, at 10 a.m.

Appointed by President Barack Obama as the United States Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom, Reverend Johnson Cook was the principal advisor to both the president and secretary of state for religious freedom globally, from May 2011 to October 2013. She was the first African American and the first female to hold this position.

Rev. Johnson Cook also held the position of chaplain to the New York City Police Department for 21 years, the only woman to serve in that role. She was on the front lines of 9/11.

The title of her sermon is It’s Your Time, It’s Your Turn.

Union Chapel is located at the end of Circuit avenue in Oak Bluffs, at the corners of Narragansett and Kennebec avenues.
