Graduation parties are nearly over as is the school year. With all the snow storms, it was predicted that school would be in session at least until the 4th of July. Enjoy Flag Day tomorrow.

Thank you to Ann DuCharme, Education Director at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, who has gone into the classrooms around the Vineyard and brought the history of whaling to life once more. Of course, we are all anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Charles W. Morgan next week. Not only has Ann provided classroom history but trips to the Martha’s Vineyard Museum as well to view the myriad of whaling artifacts. It has been a pleasure to take the tours with the young docents who had been well-trained by the previous Education Director Nancy Cole. There will be further teaching of the whaling history over the summer for the youth at the Museum.

In the “That is Amazing” heading, Merle Berger (formerly of Aquinnah, then Squibnocket, and now of Chilmark) was driving his doorless jeep on Flanders Lane a week ago when a deer jumped into his lap. Besides a few bruises and a Jeep full of deer hair, Merle is fine, and very glad the deer didn’t have antlers. Maybe the deer had the same thought about the human population.

Marlene was the proprietor of the original Marlene’s Taxi which has changed ownership many times over the past half a century.
