Did you ever wonder what J.M. Barrie did other than create Peter Pan and Tinker Bell? Well, this is the weekend for you.

Island Theatre Workshop is hosting its seventh annual one act play festival and Mr. Barrie’s play The Old Lady Shows Her Medals will be featured. The story takes us back to the beginning of the 20th century to World War I, and sets the scene as told from a woman’s perspective. This one-act will be directed by Lee Fierro.

The festival will also feature Sure Thing written by David Ives, and Mirror Mirror written by Bruce Kane.

Sure Thing is a comic play about a chance meeting between two characters whose conversation keeps getting interrupted and reset by a loud, clanging bell. Initially, the two characters disagree, but over the course of replaying their interactions, a shift occurs and the two combatants end up falling in love. If only this was always the case. This play will be directed by the sure hand of Leslie J. Stark, a man who knows a thing or two about strategies of persuasion. Mr. Stark spent his career in the Mad Men era of advertising in New York city.

Mirror Mirror, directed by Kevin Ryan, is another comedy that places the classic stories of Sleeping Beauty and Snow White in a contemporary context.

Showtimes are March 21, 22, 28 and 29 at 7:30 p.m. and March 23 and 30 at 4 p.m. All performances take place at the Katharine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven. Tickets are $15 at the door.
