The Charles W. Morgan is the oldest surviving whaleboat, and after a successful restoration it is headed out this spring on a three-month voyage throughout New England. The Vineyard is to be one port of call.

As a nod to authenticity of voyages of old, Mystic Seaport is holding a contest to put a stowaway on board the ship. As stated in their press release the stowaway will “watch, inquire, learn, participate and use their creative energy to share the voyage experience with the general public through blogging, videos, social media and activities in the port cities.”

Unlike the freewheeling days of active whaling, there is now one rule to becoming a stowaway, that of being at least 21 years old. Otherwise one must only be curious and enthusiastic; prior sailing experience is not a must.

To apply, potential stowaways must submit a video entry to mysticseaport.org/stowaway. The contest runs through Feb. 18.
