Well, I don’t know about anyone else, but I have had enough of the below-zero temperatures, although I talked to my brother in Florida and they had 40 degree weather. I just won’t tell you about the days that are 70 degrees.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Daniel Resto, who celebrated Dec. 29. Alexander Walsh and Jack Walsh celebrated on Dec. 31 and Emily Gazzaniga on Jan. 3. Michael Habekost, Scotty Lively, Matthew Morris and Amelia Russell Schaeffer all celebrated Jan. 4. Gino Chick, Karishma Comarsingh and Ingrid Gundersen celebrated Jan. 5. Mario Arellano, Lexington Palmer and Addison Patnaude celebrated Jan. 7, and happy birthday to Evelyn Brewer, John (Jack) Laird and Miles Riley, who all celebrated their day Jan. 9.

I hope you all had a great New Year’s. It certainly was a busy one. Everyone was trying to get everything done on time and then just rested after all was over and done.

I had the pleasure of going to Plymouth and spending Christmas with my family. I stayed with my nephew Doug, his wife Lori, his daughter Sabrina, who is 23 months old, and the newest member of our family — Benjamin Douglas, who was born Dec. 23. Of course it was exciting with a new baby and Sabrina is just at the right age where she was opening the Christmas presents, even if they were not hers. Of course, Finley, my great-great-nephew, was there also. He is 18 months old and was having a ball with the presents and all the lights. It certainly is nice watching Christmas through the eyes of children.

I know I talk a lot about Facebook, but this week has been an interesting one. There is a page called “I Grew Up on Martha’s Vineyard” and there have been some great pictures being posted. Allouise Morgan has posted pictures of the Waller Farm. People are posting pictures of relatives, and some basketball teams and cheerleaders back in the day. There is talk of the old businesses, like remembering the old Cronig’s on Main street in Vineyard Haven, the old A&P in Edgartown when it was on Main street, the movie theatre over the town hall offices, and the list goes on. It is fun and brings you back to those days.

My favorite picture this week was the one of the Joe Costa family — Joe and Vivian and the children Dennis, Brenda, Vanessa and Lisa. I spent many days at their house as Brenda and I rode horses together at Featherstone Farm, and we were in chorus and band together. I played the clarinet and Brenda played the bass. I had a little red Volkswagen then, so getting the clarinet in the car was easy, but the bass was a challenge. But thank goodness I had a sunroof and the bass fit nicely in the back seat with the rest of it pointing out the sunroof. We still laugh about it to this day.

I loved that car. The older Volkswagens did not have radios and my nieces still laugh about me having a transistor radio on the handle by the windshield as I tried to listen to music. If that car could talk I would be in some trouble, but laughing along the way.

On Monday, Jan. 13, the Methodist Church of Martha’s Vineyard will restart its community suppers at the Edgartown Whaling Church at 5 p.m.

Anyone interested in learning how they make their botanical labels? Tim will show us the laser engraver, too! If you are interested in going, please call 508-627-4368.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
