If selfie was the word of 2013, what will 2014 bring?

Where better to find out than on Martha’s Vineyard.

The Harbor View hosts its annual big bash on Tuesday night, with the Sultans of Swing and the Mike Benjamin Band. Party-only tickets are sold out but packages with lodging are still available. Call 508-627-3761.

Otherwise grab a blanket and a bottle of bubbly and catch the fireworks over Edgartown harbor at midnight.

Martha’s Vineyard Film Center has a night of film, food and flicks. The film center screens After the Thin Man, a 1936 murder mystery starring William Powell, Myrna Loy and Jimmy Stewart. The film begins at 8 p.m. followed by Eric Johnson, Jeremy Berlin and Chris Anzalone performing jazz classics. Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served in the lobby. Live footage from the ball drop at Times Square begins at 11:30 p.m. Tickets are $60 for general admission and $50 for film society members. For details, call 508-696-9369.

Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish play at the Katherine Cornell Theatre at 7 p.m., the P.A. Club hosts music group Serendipity starting at 9 p.m., Dreamland has two DJs on tap, and the Wharf Pub in Edgartown gets funky fresh with the Boogies.

Then on New Year’s Day, walk it all off at Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary’s First Day Walk at 10:30 a.m. at the sanctuary in Edgartown. It’s free for members and $5 for nonmember. The Island Alpaca Farm also hosts an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with Salvatore and the gang of merry alpacas.

Wishing all a happy and safe New Year!
