Thanksgiving is but a poor tired drumstick now as we look ahead to the holiday season. Whether you lean toward the pew or the jolly old elf, a time to reflect or a time to give gifts, the Christmas tree or the menorah, the month of December is a flat out celebration. Here on the Island, Oak Bluffs is hitting the starting line first with a day of holiday merriment taking place on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be a holiday bazaar at the Oak Bluffs senior center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Dreamland hosts a market from 9 a.m. 3 p.m. with live music and Santa. Horse-drawn hayrides clip-clop from East Chop Drive to New York avenue from noon to 3 p.m.

A puppet and pet parade begins at 2 p.m., and there will be a free pet picture booth for that furry stocking stuffer.

Offshore Ale toasts the season with a holiday party from 3 to 5 p.m. with cookie decorating, ornament making, and perhaps a pint or two to give one’s nose that holiday red shine.
