On Sunday, Dec.1, shot gunners came and enjoyed the crisp fall weather to compete in this year’s Rod and Gun Club’s Fall Shoot. Matt Cromwell of Edgartown bested 11 challengers to take the club’s 2013 first place and Top Gun fall honors. Participants had to score highest in three categories — over the shoulder, bulls eye and standing deer — in order to bring home the plaque.

Individual prizes were also awarded to winners in the following disciplines: Mike Ferry from West Tisbury, Bulls Eye; Cooper Gilkes from Edgartown, Over the Shoulder, and Cliff Meehan, also from Edgartown, won the Standing Deer category.

On Sunday, Dec. 15, the club will hold the annual Black Powder Shoot enabling those who use primitive firearms to get ready for their hunting season. This event is also open to the public. Both traditional and modern firearms may be used. Refreshments will be available for competitors and viewers throughout the day from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
