Four Vineyard applicants are among 100 finalists in the race to open medical marijuana dispensaries across the state.

Two final applicants are from West Tisbury, and two are from Tisbury.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health released a county-by-county breakdown of the 100 final applications for medical marijuana dispensaries last week. Applications were due Nov. 21. The state will grant provisional licenses to no more than 35 dispensaries by Jan. 31.

The four applicants from Dukes County are Susan Sanford of West Tisbury, doing business as Greenleaf MV Compassionate Care; Geoffrey Rose of West Tisbury, doing business as Patient Centric of Martha’s Vineyard Ltd.; Susan Wysocki, doing business as Kingsbury Group Inc.; and Michael Peters of Tisbury, doing business as MV Greencross Inc.

Ms. Sanford owns Vineyard Complementary Medicine in West Tisbury, a center for health and alternative health practitioners. Mr. Rose co-owns Our Island Club, a consumer discount program for Islanders. Ms. Wysocki and Mr. Peters have no known business affiliations on the Island. Ms. Wysocki’s company is also an applicant in Bourne.

Under the state’s medical marijuana law approved a year ago, every county will have at least one and no more than five dispensaries.

Applicants were required to prove they had at least $500,000 in cash on hand for start-up costs.

The prospect of marijuana dispensaries has been a subject for widespread discussion on the Vineyard in recent months. Oak Bluffs and West Tisbury both adopted zoning bylaw amendments this fall to regulate dispensaries. Tisbury plans to regulate them through its existing business district rules. Edgartown adopted a one-year moratorium on dispensaries last spring. No dispensaries are contemplated for the small up-Island towns of Chilmark and Aquinnah.
