Historic toys and games are chronicled in the Martha’s Vineyard Museum’s new exhibit, Toys. Two centuries of childhood toys dating back to the early 1800s will show how technology has impacted and shaped toys. The role of gender and recreation is also explored. Dolls, board games, figurines and more are part of the display, as well as some oral history with Vineyarders describing the toys they played with as children.

The museum will offer several children’s programs during the holiday season that will correspond with the Toys exhibit. On Saturday, Nov. 30, children will see a historic kaleidoscope that will be featured in the exhibit and they will have a chance to make one of their own.

The opening reception for Toys is from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8. Admission is free for members or $7 for nonmembers. Children under six are always admitted free. For more information, call 508-627-4441 or visit mvmuseum.org.
