Kimberlie Lynch and Steven Schwartz of Durango, Colo., are pleased to announce their marriage on Monday, July 22 during a full moon evening in Vineyard Haven.

The wedding and reception were held aboard the Schooner Alabama, which sailed off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard for the sunset ceremony. The ship’s captain, Ian Ridgeway, officiated the ceremony once the ship reached latitude 41° 29’N, longitude -70° 35’W. Forty guests were in attendance, including the bride’s mother, Shirley Craig of Edgartown, and the bridegroom’s mother, Donna Schwartz of Siloam Springs, Ark. Not in attendance physically were the bride’s late father, Philip Craig, and the bridegroom’s late father, James Schwartz, although they were certainly there in spirit.

The bride was given away by her son Peter Harmon, currently from Wichita, Kans., who then provided a short speech (wearing a bishop’s miter) from the wedding scene in the film The Princess Bride. The bride and groom stood by the ship’s wheel alongside the ship’s captain for the ceremony. The best man was Larry Goldstein of Durango, Colo., and the rest of the bridal party consisted of the bride’s children and family. Her youngest daughter, Bailey Lynch, and niece, Amelia Craig of Edgartown, were the ring bearers. Her oldest daughter, Jessica Harmon, of Denver, Colo., was the maid of honor.

While under sail along the coast of Martha’s Vineyard, guests strolled the deck and danced to the music of the Mike Benjamin Band. Hors d’oeuvres were passed, including mini lobster rolls, sliders and oysters on the half shell, favorites of the couple. The three-tiered cake alternated flavors of chocolate with hazelnut filling and white with raspberry filling. It was beautifully decorated with edible candy scallop shells, coral and seahorses. Tea Lane Caterers and Cakes by Liz provided the fare for the occasion. Bobbleheads of Princess Buttercup and the Dread Pirate Roberts stood by the cake, adding to the theme of the occasion. A good time was had by all.

The couple will continue to reside in Durango, Colo., making frequent visits to the Vineyard. A European honeymoon cruise is in the planning stage for some time in 2014.
