A Oak Bluffs man charged with allegedly injuring his infant daughter was indicted Monday by a Dukes County grand jury.

Shaun A. Sicsico, 19, was indicted on charges of assault and battery on a child with substantial injury and permitting substantial injury to a child. On July 27, Mr. Sicsico’s 12-week-old daughter was brought to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital with severe brain injuries, according to an Oak Bluffs police report.

The infant was airlifted to Boston Children’s Hospital, and the police report said physicians there believed the injuries were consistent with abuse. The child allegedly had bruising on all of her limbs and on her eyelids.

The police report said Mr. Sicsico told police he spun the child and may have spun her too hard.

Mr. Sicsico was arraigned in Edgartown District Court Monday, July 29, and bail was set at $50,000.

The grand jury also indicted Fernando A. Jesurum, 26, of Milton, on charges of trafficking in cocaine, 18 to 36 grams, distributing a class B drug (cocaine), subsequent offense, and intimidation of a witness.

Mr. Jesurum was arrested in June following a Martha’s Vineyard Drug Task Force investigation into the distribution of cocaine on the Island. After following him for eight months between the Island and Boston, police arrested Mr. Jesurum as he exited a Steamship Authority ferry in Vineyard Haven, according to a statement of facts by police.

Police allegedly found a large blunt object that appeared to be a clear plastic bag sticking out from his clothing, the police report said, and a white powdery substance consistent with cocaine fell from his shorts.
