It is either brrrrr or it is too hot for this time of year. That is what we are now experiencing. Now is the time when we open the windows to warm up the house because it is too early to turn on the heat and it is warmer outside than it is inside. Then, by this weekend we are going to hit the high 70s again. Love it.

Welcome home to Melanie and Nick Prescott and Linley Dolby Weagle and David Weagle who spent some much-needed down time in St. Johns.

Now that Melanie is back, she is working at her job on the board of trade and has emailed the following news:

Treat all your senses to this intimate fall weekend on Martha’s Vineyard at its annual premier Food & Wine Festival. This four-day festival, held October 17 to 20, brings food and wine enthusiasts from all corners who come to celebrate, sample and savor the distinct aromas and blends of fine wines from around the world. For tickets and more information, please visit mvfoodandwine.com. A portion of the profits will benefit Island Grown Schools. With the derby in full swing, the kids’ derby will be Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Oak Bluffs Steamship Authority Wharf. It starts at 6 a.m., or as many parents call it, o’ dark hundred. As usual there will be many prizes and hot coffee. The gracious leaders of this event, Cooper and Lela Gilkes, who have put this derby together for many years will be there. For all of you trivia fans out there, the Wharf is now offering its Wednesday night trivia. It is run by Dan Cassidy and his mom, Pam. It is a fun night and the company is great — plus you get to eat your favorite food before the night starts. If you get a chance, stop by and play.

The Edgartown Council on Aging has Seaweed Paintings by Rose Treat on display. Rose Treat was a wonderful Island treasure who created beautiful seaweed paintings for over 50 years. Please stop by any Tuesday, Thursday or Friday to see this wonderful display!

When I worked at Dukes County Savings Bank, we had Rose Treat seaweed artwork on display for a long time. People were always intrigued by them. They are very interesting and truly an art. Hope you get a chance to see them.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
