John Ackerman arrived over the weekend for a few days to celebrate a major milestone birthday at the home of his nephew, Woody Vanderhoop, his wife, Jamie Sue, and one-year-old Sowanahsh. This was John’s first visit since spending a few hours here to attend Woody’s wedding. John enjoyed the fair with his sister, Roxane Ackerman, and his nieces, Diamond, Faith, and Billie-Diamond.

A memorial service is being planned for Bob Lee for September. Bob is survived by his son Daniel Spitz Lee and Marjorie Spitz, as well as numerous friends from across the Vineyard.

Dr. Fred Meyer Jr. and his wife, Irene, arrived this week for a visit with his mother, Charlotte Meyer. Their children, Benjamin, Robbie and Jenna, will leave soon for their colleges in New England. No more Minnesota winters for now for these young students. Fred is on the staff of the Mayo Clinic, a far cry from his teen years of sailing on Menemsha Pond with his companion and an alarm clock.

James Meyer, son of Charlotte and her late husband, Dr. Frederick Meyer Sr., is an associate curator of modern art at the National Gallery of Art. Kerry James Marshall’s In the Tower is currently being featured through December 7. Mr. Marshall’s work explores the experiences of African Americans.

Gail and Al Polsby, summer residents of Lighthouse Road for 34 years, will observe their 50th wedding anniversary on August 31. Their daughter Abigail and her wife, Julie Munger, and their son, Dan Polsby, and his wife, Karla Chrobak, will be coming in from Truckee, Calif., and Chicago, respectively to help them celebrate.

Arnold and Norma Zack’s grandchildren, Akeakami and Kealakai, enjoyed their summer visit. Kealakai thinks the Aquinnah Fourth of July parade is for her birthday celebration. Lacey Zack, spouse of son Jonathan Zack, is presently in her chief residency in orthopedic surgery and has delayed her Vineyard visit until next summer.

Happy anniversary wishes this week to Peter and Teresa Temple, Allen Carney and Maura Fitzgerald, Drew Dubno and Jessica Seeman.
