James Steinberg, a former deputy secretary of state, will present Crafting a Long-term Strategy for the U.S. in the Middle East on July 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center in Vineyard Haven. His talk is part of the Summer Institute.

Mr. Steinberg is currently dean and professor of social science, international affairs and law at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. Before becoming dean in 2011, he served as the principal deputy to then-Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. He was formerly an aide to Sen. Edward Kennedy and a foreign policy advisor to Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.
